a kiss inappropriate
This letter was published the day 08/marzo/2011 heading for Mail and E-mail Messaggero Veneto under the title "Italy and Libya. Reverence and its"
It might seem paradoxical that, in light of recent tragic events that invest in the Maghreb, one can quibble about a subject surface and etiquette as the meaning of the word kiss. By an Italian citizen I was shocked and disgusted when I saw the Prime Minister to do the kiss of Libyan leader Gaddafi. I wondered what motivations might lie behind such an act of submission by a prime minister of a sovereign state. Squat down so publicly against a dictator who does not respect human rights and even conclude a treaty of friendship with him, we were exposed to ridicule around the world. Given that words have a precise meaning and the Italian language is a glue for our people, I consulted the Zanichelli to search for the exact definition of the word kiss means the act of kissing his hand as a sign of respect, reverence or gallantry. Immediately rule out the gallantry, in the light of media reports about bunga-bunga, beauty and minors aged machismo performed with a pathological obsession. If the act expresses respect, I wonder for whom and for what? It will be a bloodthirsty dictator who hires mercenaries to fire upon his people and the soldiers executed for refusing to attack its own people? O perhaps a head of state reiterated that at every step of defeating the Italian colonialism, forced Italy to pay compensation and who had the audacity to show up in official visit in our country with a photograph pinned to the Italian colonial period chest like a medal? Our economy is based on oil, it is clear that the rulers should maintain good relations and promote economic exchanges with countries that have oil fields, but for this we must not trample on the dignity of Italy, which indeed must always be preserved. How to interpret the deafening silence of our government in the face of such genocide or the unavailability of the President of the Council to call Gaddafi friend "not to disturb him? This discussion is not that the act of reverence to explain that kiss! But what is the reverence? The Zanichelli explains that it is of profound respect, sometimes accompanied by awe. Such treatment can it be reserved to the pope, certainly not in a ruthless dictator who harangue the crowds and his latest delusional loyalists with phrases like "Arm yourself! Unleash Hell ... Who does not love me does not deserve life .... " In this dramatic situation shows the real concern of parliamentarians leaguers: the much-feared exodus of biblical proportions of the populations of North Africa to the country's well enjoy it. Bossi, in front of a human drama of this magnitude, it is better to say that phrases like "send them to Germany!" with the effect of feeding the public's fear. A 150 years by the revolutionary movements that have brought the unification of Italy, who will celebrate despite the ostracism of some ministers, spontaneous rises in parallel with the existing revolutionary movements in North Africa. I feel very Italian to me, in front of the epochal events that are changing the geopolitical chessboard Mediterranean, I feel disgusted and not represented by leaders who are silent in the face of such horror and not just cancel the treaty of friendship with Gaddafi. These popular revolutions that spread like wildfire, have proved unstoppable because they were born from the desire for freedom and future of young generations who have found the web a formidable means of communication and aggregation. Hits like a slap in the comparison between the ideals of the young revolutionaries el'inesistenza many of them in our own MPs who brazenly and shamelessly went from one political party to another, in spite of those who elected them. In North Africa nations are struggling to give birth to the democracy that we try to dispel some!
